how to create a sunday reset routine

You know that saying, “Your morning routine starts the night before?” The same is true for your week! If you want to roll out of bed on Monday morning with confidence, the key is setting yourself up for success on Sunday with a Sunday Reset Routine.

Here’s how to create your own Sunday Reset routine and begin each week with clarity and ease.

What Is a Sunday Reset Routine?

A Sunday Reset is a simple routine you do every Sunday in order to start your week right. As an entrepreneur and working woman, I’ve found that my Sunday Reset is vital for my mental health.

In my opinion, a solid Sunday Reset touches on three things:

1. Your home.

Personally, I find it difficult to stay on top of housework during the workweek. And on Saturday, the last thing I want to do is jump out of bed and grab a broom. On Sunday, though, I feel more rested and ready to tackle all the little chores around my house.

2. Your work.

While I don’t recommend working during your weekend, I do recommend getting yourself ready to jump into your work on Monday. For me, this means looking over my calendar, creating my to-do lists, and setting my working hours for the week.

3. Your soul.

A Sunday Reset routine isn’t all about work. It should also include some type of self-care to get you prepped for the week and shake off the Sunday scaries. You might run a luxurious bath, take a yoga class, or journal about your week–whatever relaxes you!

Your Sunday Reset routine should check all three of these boxes. And if you find that a three-part Sunday Reset comes easily to you, you can always add other activities–like meal prepping, calling your mom, grocery shopping, or just spending time with friends.

5 Steps to Create Your Sunday Reset Routine

Ready to craft your own Sunday Reset routine? Here’s how!

STEP 1: Consider how you want your week to feel.

The main goal of your Sunday Reset is to improve your life in the coming week. Before you create your routine, get clear on how you want the week to feel.

Do you want to be able to jump out of bed on Monday morning and head straight to the office? Would you rather take things slow and ease yourself into the workweek? Do you need your workout clothes prepped and ready for the next morning?

Take these things into account when putting together your routine. And once you start practicing your routine, check in every week to make sure you’re covering all your bases.

STEP 2: Start with household chores.

I like to get my household chores out of the way first. That’s why they’re the first part of my Sunday Reset.

Every Sunday, I set aside half an hour to an hour to…

  • Vacuum and mop my floors

  • Tidy up any clutter

  • Wipe down my countertops and shelves

  • Start a load of laundry

  • Toss any spoiled produce or leftovers

Any other household chores can be spread out throughout your week. Your Sunday Reset should just cover the quick, easy ones that will get your house looking and feeling fresh for the week to come.

STEP 3: Prepare for the workweek.

Next, prepare yourself for the upcoming week of work. For thirty minutes after I’ve completed my household chores, I check my calendar for meetings, create my to-do lists, and set clear working hours for myself. I also use this time to block off time in my calendar for hanging out with friends, practicing self-care, and working out. Depending on what my week looks like, I might also use this time to pack my lunch for the next day, set out my workout clothes, or make a grocery list.

While it might seem counterintuitive to think about work during your Sunday Reset, I’ve found that having an idea of what the week will look like puts me in the right headspace. Instead of lying awake on Sunday night thinking of all the things I have on my to-do list, I can go to bed knowing my week is fully planned out and organized.

STEP 4: Unwind and relax.

Finally, set aside time to unwind and relax on Sunday. I like to set aside the last several hours of my day to do something I truly enjoy that I know will help me loosen up before the coming week.

Whether you spend this time taking a workout class, treating yourself to a hot bath, or just lying on the couch reading a book, practice slow breathing and start the wind-down process. That way, you’ll be relaxed and ready for a good night’s sleep.

If taking time off is something you struggle with and you always feel like there’s never enough time, check out my Time-Freedom Blueprint.

STEP 5: Put it into practice!

Once you create your Sunday Reset, put it in your calendar and actually start practicing it. I like to queue up a podcast and get into some comfy clothes before I get started. Play your favorite music, put on a TV show in the background, or get your partner in on the fun–whatever it takes to make your Sunday Reset something you’ll look forward to.
